Who’s Who
Our minister is Revd. Dr. Mike Ward.
Mike has been our minister here for over ten years, sharing his local ministry with smaller congregations in Clubmoor (Liverpool) and Two Mills in Cheshire. He has brought to Moreton a passion for writing and pastoral work and over thirty years of experience of ministry, hospital chaplaincy and broadcasting in the Church of Scotland and the Diocese of Lincoln.
He will be the first to admit he has made more than a few mistakes along the way. If Moreton has been described as “the friendly church” Mike also has emphasised in his preaching and writing that we are a “human church”, sharing our vulnerability on a continuing journey of faith, learning as we grow together as a church. He has gained many friends along the way but sadly taken the funerals of too many he has come to know well.
In recent times during the Covid pandemic and lockdowns, he has worked closely with a talented team of elders in keeping the church ‘open for business’ through the use of technology and this website (though it has often been said that as a self-confessed technophobe, Mike needs instructions how to use a hammer). He is also heavily involved in the wider work of the Presbyterian Church of Wales, most recently serving as Clerk for the (English language churches) Association in The East and, with his “Not The Sunday Sermon”, is a regular contributor to “The Treasury”, the monthly English language magazine of the PCW.
His wife, Leslie, and adopted daughter Isolde, live in the family home in San Roque, Metro Manila in the Philippines. Apart from widely travelling through Asia (pre-Covid), he enjoys Asian and Italian cooking and watching sport. When he grows up, Mike says he wants to be a minister.
